ExtendMyCloset.com is an online technology and logistics platform that enables its members to rent and/or lend their fashion items (e.g. dresses, shoes) with each other.

  • Where is ExtendMyCloset.com available?

USA only

  • Is there a membership fee?

 No, it's completely free to become a member.

  • Do you have a mobile app?

Not yet, but the website is optimized for the mobile devices. Give it a try on your phone's browser.

Lender Questions

  • I want to lend my items - how do I get started?
    It's simple, quick, and free to list your items. Please follow simple steps below:
  1. Sign up with your Email, Facebook, or Google Account
  2. Click on 'List Your Item' button and upload item detail - brand, color, size, description - along with the availability, delivery options, and a few pictures.
  3. That's it! Once approved, your listing will be published automatically.
  • Is it Free to list my item?

Yes

  • What type of items can I lend?

 You can lend your stylish (designer or non-designer) dresses, evening gowns, and shoes. Most members lend items with at least $100 of retail value and less than 2 years old.

  • How does pricing work?

It's totally up to you to decide the weekly rental price for your items. Most members use 10% of the original retail price. For example, set weekly price to $15 if you originally bought it for $150. However, it all depends on the usage and age of your item. While setting up the price, keep in mind ExtendMyCloset.com's service fee (4% to securely process payments for you) and any costs to clean / refresh your item for the next rental. We highly recommend setting a reasonably low price in order to maximize interests of borrowers. You will have opportunities to lend the same item again and again.

  • How do I get paid?

Once you receive your item back at the end of rental period, we will process the payout for you. You can receive payouts in your PayPal account or direct deposit (ACH) to your bank account. You can set your payout preferences in the Dashboard.

  • How much can I earn?

You will be paid the total rental amount minus ExtendMyCloset.com's service fee, which is only 4% to cover costs of securely processing payments for you. For example, if your weekly rental price is $25 and your item is rented out for 2 weeks, the total rental amount will be $50. You will be paid $48 (=$50-$2)

  • What happens when someone requests my item?

You will get an instant notification. It's totally up to you to accept or decline the request from the Dashboard. You are in control of who and when to lend your item.

  • Can I communicate with the Borrower prior to taking action on the request?

Absolutely. You can communicate directly with the Borrower via our secure messaging system.

  • How do I deliver my item to the Borrower? How do I receive the item back?

While listing the item, you can select one or more delivery options that are suitable for you. Two options are 1) Meet with the Borrower at a local place, such as a coffee shop, and 2) Use ExtendMyCloset.com's hand-delivery services. Both options are totally free to the Lender. We strongly recommend selecting both options in order to maximize views and interest from the Borrowers. If you select both options, the Borrower will ultimately decide which option is suitable for her.

  • What if my item is damaged or lost?

Don't worry, we got you covered. If your item is damaged or lost, please contact us within 24 hours with a few before & after pictures to file a claim. Our Lender Guarantee will provide you coverage up to 4 times of the rental price. Additionally, we may take actions to ban the Borrower from our platform. 

  • What if my item is not returned on time?

We take it seriously. We send a reminder to the Borrower a day prior to the rental end date. However, if you don't receive your item on time, please send a message to the Borrower from the Bookings & Conversations menu in the Dashboard. If you don't receive a response, please contact us immediately. We will call borrower and begin the remediation process immediately. In an unlikely event, if your item is lost, our Lender Guarantee will provide coverage to you. We may ban the Borrower from our system.

  • Who takes care of dry cleaning?

The lender is responsible for cleaning their items after receiving back. We don't impose on getting the expensive dry cleaning done, rather we provide choice and flexibility to Lender on how their item should be cleaned. Some people prefer to save money by cleaning the items at home (e.g. steam clean) 

  • What if my item is not available for rent when I am on vacation?

You can manage the availability calendar for your items.

  • Can I edit my listing after it's published?

Yes 

  • Will my listing expire?

No

  • Do I need to re-list my item?

No, you don't need to re-list your item to lend it again. It will be shown as available after the rental period ends.

  • Why should I trust you with my item? What is Lender Guarantee?

The ExtendMycloset Lender Guarantee provides protection to a Lender for up to 4 times of weekly rental amount to cover a rare event of damages or theft. 

  • Am I responsible for taxes?

As a lender, you may be responsible for paying income tax in certain states. Please consult your CPA or tax advisor.

  • How do I see my transactions?

You can view your Future and Completed Transactions from the Dashboard. Please login to see the Dashboard.

  • What is ExtendMyCloset.com photography services?

We offer our models and photographers to lenders who want to give a professional touch to their listings. Please contact us to learn more. 

  • What if my item doesn't fit the borrower?

If the Borrower makes a fit claim within 12 hours of receiving your item, the booking will be canceled and money will be refunded to the Borrower. Don't worry your item will be protected under ExtednMyCloset's Lender Guarantee. 

  • When do I get paid?

You will be paid immediately after the item has been returned back to you.  

  • How much is delivery?

As a lender, you don't need to pay for the delivery.

Borrower Questions

  • I want to rent an item - how do I get started?

It's simple, quick, and easy to rent items on ExtendMyCloset.com

Step 1 - Request

 Browse through hundreds of styles in your local area. Select the one you love. Send a request to the Lender with your desired rental dates and delivery preference  (either ‘meet with the lender’ or ‘get it delivered to my doorstep’)

Step 2 - Rent

Upon Lender’s acceptance, make a secure online payment with the credit card.  Receive the item via your selected delivery option. Fit Guaranteed. Enjoy!

Step 3 - Return

 Return the item to the Lender  via your selected delivery option. Dry cleaning not required. Rate your experience to help others.

  • How do I pay for the item?

 Major credit card or PayPal. We use secure PayPal gateway to process the payments.

  • How many days I can keep the item?

Most borrowers rent the item for 1 week, but our platform allows you to rent the item for up to 6 weeks.  

  • Can I communicate with the Lender prior to making payment?

Yes.

  • What if the rented item doesn't fit me?

No worries, you are protected by our Fit Guarantee. Please notify us within 12 hours of receiving the item. We will refund your money, except the delivery charges. 

  • How do I receive the item?

There are two options, 1) to meet with the lender at a local place (e.g. coffee shop) and 2) get it delivered to my doorstep. 

  • What if I receive an item that is already damaged?

Please notify us immediately.  If item is unusable, we will cancel the transaction and will refund 100% of your money

  • What if I damage the item by mistake? or lose it?

If you damage or lose the item, you will have to pay for it.

  • Who takes care of the dry cleaning?

Lender takes care of the dry cleaning. 

  • Is there a late fee?

Yes.

  • Can I reschedule my delivery or pickup?

Yes.
